A method of intermittently dressing the ring-shaped surface or active rim of an axially adjustable dished grinding wheel of a gear grinding machine and which active rim acts upon a workpiece. The position of the active rim is controlled and the grinding wheel adjusted such that the ring-shaped surface or active rim is retained at the same location independent of its wear. The active rim is dressed once within a predetermined dressing interval by means of a likewise axially advanced dressing tool. The dressing tool is then advanced if, within the dressing interval, the grinding disk adjustment or compensating feed has dropped below a predetermined total magnitude.

(54) DEVICE FOR THE EDITION OF THE END OF THE SCREED GRINDING CIRCLE

The machine spindle is mounted in the drum 22, which with the help of ratchet wheels 23 and 24, dogs 25 and 26, cylinders 27 and 28 and distribution element 29 can be displaced in the axial direction, allowing the grinding wheel 2 to move, on command from control unit 6.
The device also has a command device 30 containing a comparator 31 connected by an input to the control unit 6 of the electrocontact mechanism 3 of the machine, a digital indicator 32 connected to the comparator, a setting controller 33 for the dressing cycle duration connected to the clock generator 34, and also a setting unit 35 for the number of compensation cycles and 36 cycles connected to it. The clock generator 34 is connected to the comparator 31 and to the counter 36 cycles, and the cycle counter in turn is connected to the comparator 31 and the digital indicator 32. The output of the comparator 31 is connected to the actuator 17 of the axial movement of the rotary holder 7.
The device works as follows.
When the grinding wheel 2 is worn, the probe 4 turns to close the contact 5. As soon as the contact 5 closes, the control unit 6 sends a command to lead the wheel 2 to the distribution element 29, which actuates the cylinder 27. Each lead of the wheel 2 (compensation cycle) is fixed through comparator 31 by digital indicator 32. At the same time, the unit 35 of the number of compensation cycles sets in advance a certain number of compensation cycles, which is memorized by a counter of 36 cycles. In addition, using the setting unit 33, the duration of the dressing cycle is used to set the period of time between revisions, in accordance with which the clock generator 34 outputs pulses to the comparator 31 and to the counter 36 cycles.
